    Welcome to my Livejournal!
Hello! This is the Vögelein Livejournal page... well, kinda. I don't do much here, because the majority of my web presence is in other places. If you're interested in finding out more about Vögelein, or Jane Irwin, please have a look through some of these links:

    Announcing a new project!
    Hey, everyone!

For those of you who've been reading the JanerBlog,(http://www.vogelein.com/JanerBlog) you'll know that I've been talking about my new Seekrit Project. Well, it's April Fool's Day, but this announcement is no joke! I'll be starting a new webcomic today!

    http://www.clockworkgame.com

It's called Clockwork Game, and it's a true story of a chess-playing automaton that actually existed in the 18th and 19th centuries. The series will run weekly, with a new update every Thursday.

If you have an RSS feed reader, or a LiveJournal Friends page, you can receive each week's update just by following these links:

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VÖGELEIN CREATOR JANE IRWIN LAUNCHES NEW WEBCOMIC

KALAMAZOO, MI – April 1st, 2008 – Self-publisher Jane Irwin, known for her black-and-white painted series Vögelein, has chosen April Fool's Day to begin her newest project, Clockwork Game. Based on the true history of a world-renowned 18th century hoax, commonly known as The Turk, the new story will be released in its entirety as a webcomic, updating each Thursday.

Originally designed to amuse the Empress Maria Theresa, The Turk was a machine that could play chess with the skill and originality of a grandmaster. It captivated audiences all over Europe and the United States, playing against many well-known rulers and dignitaries throughout its long and astonishing career. “I was inspired to retell the incredible story of The Turk because it seems far too fantastic to actually be true, and yet with each new book and article I uncovered, the facts became much more captivating than any fiction I could have created,” Irwin said. “Clockwork Game is a mostly-true dramatization of historical events, told with as little conjecture as possible.”

Drawn in a crosshatched pen-and-ink style, Clockwork Game marks a major shift in both medium and presentation from Irwin's earlier work, though the subject matter shares many similarities with her previous graphic novels, which told the story of an automaton brought to life. Vögelein: Clockwork Faerie and Vögelein: Old Ghosts were released to widespread critical acclaim, including Clockwork Faerie's inclusion on Booklist's 2003 Top Ten Graphic Novels for Youth.

In addition to her own projects, Irwin teaches several workshops each year at schools and libraries, showing creators of all ages how to tell their own stories through the medium of comics. She lives and works in Kalamazoo, Michigan with her husband, Paul Sizer, creator of the standalone graphic novels BPM and Moped Army and the series Little White Mouse, which currently runs on WebComicsNation.com.

Clockwork Game can be found at http://www.clockworkgame.com, or via the front page of Irwin's hub site, http://www.vogelein.com.

Sample art from the comic is available upon request.

    The Newest Vogelein Newsletter
    Hello, everyone!

In a dramatic change from last newsletter, I have nothing but good news to report this time around.

THING ONE: THE BOOKS ARE DONE.

They're done, they're done, they're done. Thanks to the wonderful folks down at Malloy, Inc in Ann Arbor, I finally have books. Unfortunately, since Diamond had to re-cut the PO due to the prior delay, the books should ship to comics stores around the end of September. But they're done, and they look good, and if you've ordered one through your Local Comics Store, your order *will* be fulfilled. YAY!

THING TWO: LET THE PARTY BEGIN.

Or, rather, parties. At the moment I have four signings lined up. If you're in the area, please come on down and visit -- I'd love to see you guys. Your kind words have kept me going through the last few years, and now it's time to celebrate! Here's the schedule:

THING THREE: I GOTS THE KEYS!

I have key necklaces. Most of them sold before I could get them home (seriously -- they were that popular), but I might have one or two left by the first signing. If you really really REALLY want one of the first batch, email me ASAP; first come, first served. I'll hold the rest of the names in the order I received them. Don't send money until I can confirm that I have an actual key to sell you.

That's all the news for the moment; the hardcovers are being bound, and with a little luck I may have a few of each title with me on some of the speaking engagements. Get 'em while they're hot!

    Feed for the JanerBlog
Awww! Some very nice person made a Syndicated LJ feed for my regular blog, the JanerBlog. If you'd like to join it, the details are here: http://syndicated.livejournal.com/janerblog/profile.

    Thanks, anonymous person!

By the way, as much as I love LJ, the reason I keep all my stuff on the sidhe.org server is because, well, sites like LJ get bought and sold and are constantly in flux, sometimes subject to rules from the owners and sudden shifts in philosophy or use. To keep my writing safe -- and under my ownership and control -- I choose to put my regular journals on a machine owned by a good friend.

    So there ya go.

    Not Dead Yet
    Hey there, Friends List. Howya?

I know I've never updated this blog in the year-and-change I've had it, but hey, there's a first time for everything.

This is just to let everybody know that a) I'm not dead yet, b) I'll be at SPX with a 40-page minicomic preview of the new book and c) I've just updated the living daylights out of the Vogelein.com website. Go, see, make my losing the last three weeks of my life worthwhile: http://www.vogelein.com/vogelein/index.shtml

We now return you to our regularly scheduled radio silence.

    Loveses y'all,

    Janer

    Nothing to see here.
This LJ is, honestly, just a placeholder for my friends list. If you want to read my occasional non-comics-related ramblings, you can read the JanerBlog over at the main Vogelein site.

There are a couple of RSS feeds to this blog -- I'm still trying to figure out how to get LiveJournal to pick them up -- but if you have means other than LJ, you can go here: http://www.vogelein.com/JanerBlog/index.rdf (rss feed) or here http://www.vogelein.com/JanerBlog/index.xml (atom feed) depending on your choice.
